Rabies outbreak feared in north Malawi: Govt fails to roll out dog vaccination campaign

There are fears of rabies outbreak in the north after government has failed to roll out a vaccination campaign that could have seen 50000 dogs getting vaccination in the north. [caption id="attachment_100626" align="alignright" width="490"] Dogs vaccination delayed[/caption] Mzuzu Agricultural Development Division veterinary officer Jacob Mwansinga said the campaign was supposed to be conducted in October and November but was put on hold due to financial problems. “We might do it in the first months of 2016," said Mwansinga. Failure to vaccinate the dogs exposes people of Mzuzu, Mzimba, Rumphi, Nkhata Bay and Likoma to rabies whose drug is not available in most public hospitals.
