All medical assistants assembled at the hospital’s café son after reporting for duties at 7:30 am and told hospital management that they would not use the OPD room which they say posed a serious danger as the walls can crumble any time and fall on them.
The staff told the management on Monday to pull down the OPD room building or they would not work.
Patients affected were those seeking OPD services, orthopaedic services and pharmacy.
The patients, most of whom looked sicky wondered what was going on at the hospital as the medical assistants were busy chatting and chattering as hours passed away.
One of the medical assistants confided in
Nyasa Times that the staff were irked by remarks by district health officer on Mwai Mwale who retorted on Monday, “who told you the building is collapsing.”
After an impromptu and unscheduled meeting in the afternoon, the management surrendered a palliative room which is used as pharmacy, treatment room and a TB multidrug resistant room.
The management is currently erecting tents, one has already been completed.
Some patients shouted in anger as hours passed without getting treatment until late after 2 pm.
This comes after reports that Mwale has received a transfer latter to Ntchisi whilst the principal administrative officer Mrs Chiona is being sent to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
